DAY 4 – Unlocking Your Superpowers

Today the #10DBC has me discovering what my superpowers are.

I can assure you it isn’t flying or looking svelte in tights and a cape.

To find out what grand gifts I have at my disposal for realizing my dream of freedom, it is necessary to delve into three areas:

1. What am I good at?
I am versatile, adaptable, and I learn quickly. I’m a problem finder – if there is something amiss I can usually track it down.

2. What do I enjoy or love to do?
I love being a parent and a children’s ministry teacher/leader. I love to read and learn new things. I especially enjoy studying the Bible. I enjoy working with my hands, especially woodworking. I love to watch movies. I enjoy writing fiction, screenplays and stage plays, and. I love taking Bible verses and creating a lesson that will hopefully be used to touch the lives of others.

3. What do others say I am good at?
This one is a bit tougher since I didn’t have the time to query my friends, though I did consult my wife and my toddler. They were very helpful. According to them, I’m very creative, funny and quick-witted. Who knew successive pun-ability could make you a rock star? I’m an excellent cook and a creative parent who can find ways to communicate with our youngest when nothing else works. When I put my mind to being organized, I am a monster at it. I just need to focus on that more, if my desk (a.k.a. “the crater”) is any indication.
So where are my superpowers in all of that? Good question!

I think my adaptability, creativity, skills of observation and humor give me the wonder-twin power to study and write reviews on practically any subject. Additionally, my love of parenting and teaching allows me to be able to write for both children and adults. Couple that with my desire to delve deep about the Bible and share what I find with the world, I don’t know how to extrapolate a superpower from that miasma, but I think I’m headed in the right direction…
Till Day 5 – Later!

Dennis, I have been participating in Natalie’s 10 Day Challenge (although I only started it on Sept. 13). I have enjoyed reading your posts and love your website. I also am working on creative writing and inspiring and motivating people to choose an intentional and dynamic life.

My website is just under development so it will be a week or two before I go live. It is so great to know their is a community of folk out there who are following their passions and are willing to take the risk to live an unconventional life.

      Thank you, Janet!

Congrats on your website being underway. I spent weeks… months, really, before I settled on the one I have. I’ll bet this is the 15th WordPress theme I’ve tried! Hopefully you’re not running into similar problems, but if you are, then you have my utmost sympathies.

I’m learning how awesome it is to have a community of people that I can turn to now that I’m looking at making writing a full-time gig, especially since it’s practically an 180-degree turn from what I’ve been doing for over two +decades. Just with these few days of consistent blogging, I feel better, more comforted and encouraged than I did a week ago. I hope that you are feeling something similar.

If there’s any way I might of help, don’t hesitate to let me know.

Thanks Dennis, yes we are finding the joys of setting up WordPress, websites etc., and have been encouraged by yourself and others that an end will come to the trials and tribulations.

As we have come to the end of Natalie Sisson sessions I was looking for another challenge. I found a site – http://750words.com/ that you might be interested in. It is a daily challenge to write 750 words and you get badges or icons when you say write three days in a row, or if you write every day for 30 days straight. There are no topics, it is just free writing, but a good incentive to get into the habit of writing everyday. Editing come later. I just completed Day 1 and thought you might like this fun challenge.

Hi Janet! I checked out the site you suggested – looks interesting and a great idea. Thank you for the suggestion! Nanowrimo is starting in a little over a month too, so that’s a lot of potential writing time! Another blog challenge that I want to get started on is http://goinswriter.com/blog-challenge/. I’ve been following Jeff for a while and I think he’s got a lot of good advice like Natalie does. Going to be a productive last quarter of the year – Now I just need to work on getting some writing clients and all will be golden. Ever forward!
