Day 6 – Finding Your Tribe
The Challenge: Find 1 or 2 people who are living the kind of life you want to live, and whose tribe you’d love to be part of.
In the realm of looking for mentors, I have a good size list of people I would love to learn from; Michael Hyatt, R.A. Salvatore, J.R.R. Tolkien, Max Lucado, Jim Butcher, Joss Whedon, and a host of others. They all have talents in areas of writing I would really like to engage in. Their styles of storytelling and directional content make a significant impact, whether their intent is to entertain or change lives. Since I have to limit it to 1 or 2, I’m going to pick Michael Hyatt and Max Lucado.
First off, they are godly men who help others find their way to discovering their purpose. The other thing they are is writing dynamos. If I could write books like Mr. Lucado or churn out content like Mr. Hyatt, I don’t know how I would have any fingers left.
Just call me Nubby.
Individually, Max Lucado and I share two of the most important lifeblood elements; we were both tuba players in High School band and we both love Jesus (though I think Max has Him on speed dial for book consultations). Every book I have read by Mr. Lucado has left me laughing, crying, and gaining a whole new and better perspective on my past and the future God has in store than when I started. It’s a real blessing and gift to be able to bring hope to others.
Michael Hyatt is seemingly about one thing – helping others climb to the top of their purpose. Rock solid in his intent and straight to the point, he never leaves you wondering if you’ll ever figure out your next step. He tells you straight up what you need to do, and where to go from there. Additionally, you never feel so much like a number in a virtual audience – you feel like he is speaking directly to you and your questions.
There you have it. Two great authors and speakers who mentor thousands every day. I can’t even begin to imagine what it would be like to serve beside them and learn from them – but it would be awesome to find out!
